Twelve years ago, chef Christophe Émé landed one of LA’s few Michelin stars for his restaurant Ortolan – remember Ortolan? I do – YUMMY~~~

After years of cooking privately around town, Émé is back serving the kind of food he loves: innovative wine-friendly food with classic techniques and a heavy dose of seasonality. The atmosphere is lively and social – you can also sit at the bar as they have a small bar menu too. I always go for the grilled octopus – it was charred perfectly – the beet salad and the sashimi are a delicious presentation, almost too pretty to eat. Braised beef cheeks and oysters are also favorites – and the steak is cooked perfectly and full of flavor – almost as good as Wally’s Delmonico Steak. But back to Kass – I have never met a Pavlova I did not love – and the pavlova here did not disappoint. Newly opened in February, I suggest booking a reservation as it is small – only 40 seats. This is not your average neighborhood bistro.
